ASUN Conference All-Academic Team
NEWARK, NJ--NJIT seniors
Arianna Gerber and
Noelle Batista have been selected to the 2018 ASUN Conference All-Academic team the league office announced Wednesday evening.
Gerber and Batista share the 11-team honor with nine other student-athletes from the ASUN Conference, including Scholar Athlete of the Year Holly Fritz from FGCU.
Gerber, a biology major from Medford, NJ, holds a 3.81 GPA.
An ASUN Conference first-team honoree, Gerber bounced back in 2018 after missing the last seven matches in 2017 due to injury.
The Highlanders co-captain and team leader on and off the field, appeared in all 17 matches, recording one goal and six assists. The lone goal on the season for Gerber was a game-winner, coming in the 89th minute against Temple, in the Highlanders 1-0 victory. Her six assists in a single season ranks first in the Division I era (tying her own record – 6 assists in 2016). The six assists also ranks tied for fifth in the ASUN.
An ASUN second-team honoree a season ago, Gerber has combined for five goals, 15 assists and 31 points for her career. Her 15 assists ranks the senior tied for first all-time at NJIT.
Batista, a biology major from Hicksville, NY, holds a 3.91 GPA.
The Highlanders senior appeared in 17 matches for the record-setting Highlanders. Batista registered her lone goal in the Highlanders 4-0 victory at Jacksonville.
For her career, Batista has combined for five goals, three assists and 13 points.
All-Academic Criteria
Student-Athletes must have a:
--Minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale)
--Completed four (4) semesters of college coursework OR 50% of progress towards degree.
--Participated in a minimum of 50 percent of the team's contests in the year of nomination
--One year of residence at the institution (graduate transfers excluded).
