NEWARK, NJ—Visiting Kennesaw State took game one, 13-1, in seven-innings while
Andres Fernandez and
Bryan Haberstroh held the Owls scoreless over the final four innings in the nightcap, securing the Highlanders first ASUN Conference win in 2017, 5-2, Friday evening at Riverfront Stadium.
The Highlanders honored its three graduating seniors –
Rex MacMillan,
Cody Kramer and
Bryan Haberstroh in-between games.
NJIT, which snapped a 34-game losing streak in the ASUN Conference, dating back to April 2, 2016 when the Highlanders defeated USC Upstate, 8-6, moves to 1-16 in the ASUN, 8-37 overall while Kennesaw State stands at 9-8 in the ASUN, 21-27 overall.
In game one, Kennesaw State held an 8-1 lead through four innings and tacked on five runs in the seventh inning, to secure the win for the Owls, 13-1, in seven-innings.
Trailing 2-1 after five in game two, the Highlanders rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh and held the Owls scoreless over the final four innings, recording the first ASUN Conference win of 2017, 5-2, in nine-innings.
Game Two
NJIT starting pitcher RHP Jared Kasco took a no-decision, making his second collegiate start, pitching 4.2 innings, surrendering two runs on six hits. Relief pitcher RHP
Andres Fernandez (1-3) picked up his first win of the season, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing one hit and striking out three Owl batters. Senior RHP
Bryan Haberstroh, one of three seniors' recognized in-between games, recorded his third save of the season, pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth inning.
CF Jesse Uttendorder led the Highlanders in game two, going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and one run while 1B

Johnny Malatesta drove in one run apiece.
Senior C
Cody Kramer finished 2-for-4, including his sixth double of the season.
Kennesaw State RHP Gabe Friese (2-2), the second pitcher for the Owls, who entered the game in the seventh, was stuck with the loss, facing four Highlander batters and allowing two hits, two runs and two walks.
Starting pitcher AJ Moore had a no-decision, pitching the first 6.0 innings, while striking out five batters.
Kennesaw State C Forrect Bramlett finished 3-for-4 with one run batted in while four different players posted one hit in game two.
The visiting Owls plated a single run in the top of the second on a deep single to shortstop by SS David Chabult, scoring CF Chris Erwin, who led off the inning with double to center field for a 1-0 lead.
NJIT knotted the game in the bottom of the fourth on a deep groundout between the second and first baseman by 1B Alex Buram, scoring CF Jesse Uttendorder, who led off the inning with a single to third, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Kennesaw State regained the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fifth on a double to right center by C Forrest Bramlett.
The Highlanders rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh, taking a 5-2 lead, after scoring a run on a wild pitch, RBI single through the right side by 2B

Game One
Junior RHP Tony Dibrell (6-3), who currently ranks 12
th in the nation in ERA (1.50), pitched a complete seven-inning game, allowing one Highlander run and surrendering five hits, including eight strikeouts.
CF Chris Erwins finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored while SS David Chabult went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
DH Corey Greeson finished 1-for-5 with one RBI, including his fourth home run of the season while RF Taylor Allum notched his team-leading 14
th home run in the third inning to right field.
NJIT LHP
Brian Sondergard (1-6) was credited with the loss, pitching 2.0 innings, while LHP
Justin Chin pitched 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits.
For NJIT, DH
Matthew Cocciadiferro was the only multi-hit player, going 2-for-4 while three different Highlanders posted a hit.
Kennesaw State struck first in the top of the first on a solo home run to left field by DH Corey Greeson, his fourth of the season.
NJIT tied the game in the home portion of the first, 1-1, on a wild pitch, scoring CF
Jesse Uttendorfer, who doubled down the right field line for the Highlanders.
The Owls broke the 1-1 tie, adding three runs in the top of the second on four hits and one NJIT error, pushing its lead to 4-1.
Kennesaw State led off the third inning with a home run to right field by RF Taylor Allum and added a two more runs in the inning, extending its lead to, 7-1.
The Owls scored a single run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single up the middle by CF Chris Erwin, scoring 1B Upshaw, who led off the inning with a double to left field for an 8-1 advantage.
Kennesaw State added five runs on four hits in the top of the seventh, extending its lead to 13-1.
