COLLEGE PARK, MD – The NJIT's men and women's track and field teams competed at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday with five Highlanders posting ASUN Conference leading performances in their respective events.
The men's team secured second place out of eight teams behind host Maryland, with the women's team taking fifth.
Three women and two men were among the athletes who now sit on-top of the ASUN rankings including
Elisabeth Paulina,
Vanessa Marques,
Giovanna Nolan,
Michael Haraka and
Erick McNamara.
Paulina took first place in the women's 400 meter dash with a time of 58.16.
In the women's field events, Nolan took first in the javelin throw with a distance of 36.28m, beating out Maryland's Jillian Maloney close second-place throw by 0.10 of a meter.
Marques finished in the top eight in the women's hammer throw, getting a 33.49m distance.
In the hammer throw Haraka placed second with a 41.40m distance with teammate
Sawyer Gara right behind him in third with a 39.26m throw.
The NJIT men dominated the javelin throw, led by McNamara who threw 49.55m. Placing second-fourth in the event were
David Singer,
Billy Forrester and
Patrick Gavin respectively.
Also for the men's side,
Joe Skwiat brought home a first place victory in the triple Jump with his leap of 13.02m.
Next up, the Highlanders will compete at the Monmouth Invitational starting Friday March 24 into March 25.
