NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's and women's cross country teams hosted its 14
th Annual Highlander XC Challenge Saturday afternoon at Branch Brook Park.
Over 30 teams competed in the annual challenge Saturday morning, with the NJIT men posting a 3-0 record with wins over Wagner (24-33), Saint Peter's (15-50) and Fairleigh Dickinson (17-46) while the NJIT women registered a win against Saint Peter's (17-46).
Senior captain
Blake Brancato was the top finisher for the Highlanders, clocking in with a time of 25:50.57, placing first in the Division I results (second overall).
Sophomore
Ryan Budhu and
Gerard Gill finished at 26:44.65 and 26:50.74 for the Highlanders. Freshman
Gavin Camby clocked in with a time of 28:10.96 followed by junior
Mike Russell at 28:12.73.
Other Highlanders competing included:
Carlos Skerrett,
Nicholas Ramirez,
Matthew DaSilva,
Joseph Onubogu and
Ben Miller.
On the women's side, freshman duo
Kelly DiCristina and
Cassandra Raia finished the 5k course, clocking in at 19:20.65 and 19:33.12 respectively. Sophomore captain
Chloe Jelley finished with a time of 20:00.30.

Emily Shibata.
NJIT will return to action on October 13 when the Highlanders compete at the Metropolitan Championships. The race is scheduled to begin at 1:30 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
