EASTON, PA -- The NJIT men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Lafayette XC Invitational Friday evening, sending a combined 12 athletes to race in the four-team event which also featured Lehigh, Rider, and host Lafayette.

Diego Reyes (7) and Elijah McCoy (10) placed within the top ten in the men's 8K race to lead NJIT. On a notably slow course in Easton, Reyes ran a 25:42.4 (5:10.2 average mile). 

McCoy, a freshman from nearby Linden (Union Catholic HS), was making his collegiate debut and posted a 25:47.6 (5:11.6). 

On the women's side, which ran a 6K, freshman Taylor Blackwelder led the Highlanders with a 23:39.1.

NJIT heads to the Midwest next weekend to compete in the John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana. Indiana State is hosting the meet, which takes place on the same course where the NCAA Cross Country National Championships are held in November.
