Former NJIT guard
Tim Coleman has signed a professional contract with the Halifax Hurricanes, a team that competes in the National Basketball League of Canada and part of the Atlantic Division.
The Halifax Hurricanes, located in Novia Scotia, were crowned NBL Champions two years ago (2015-16) and lost in the finals last season. The Hurricanes, two-time defending Atlantic Division Regular Season Champions, reached 29 wins in 2015-16 and 27 in 2016-17.
"I am thankful to have the opportunity to play after college and can't wait to see how far it takes me," Coleman added.
Coleman will join his new team at the end of October and begin workouts on November 4.Â

Coleman, a 2016 graduate of NJIT, completed his career with 1,439 career points (fourth all-time at NJIT) and 762 rebounds (all-time rebounding leader).Â
He became the third member of NJIT's Division I 500-rebound club against Stetson on March 1, 2016 and sixth member of the Division 1 1000-point club vs. Army on March 16, 2016 (28
th all-time).
As a senior, he ranked fifth in the ASUN Conference in steals per game (1.2), sixth in rebounding and blocks per game (6.9) and 15
th in points per game (12.5).
He finished with six double-doubles and against Jacksonville on January 12, he missed NJIT's first all-time triple-double by three assists, despite 15 points, 13 rebounds and career-best seven assists.
Coleman set NJIT's single-season rebound record (262) against Boston University in the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament on March 21, 2016 (now held by
Abdul Lewis; 264). His seven double-doubles were one shy the NJIT single-season record.
In 2014-15, he finished second on the team in rebounding (5.1) and third in scoring (11.5). As a freshman, he played in 24 of the teams 29 games, including 11 starts, finishing second on the team in rebounding (4.9), blocked shots (29) and steals (28).
A resident of Union, NJ, Coleman is a graduate of St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, where he was coached by Bob Hurley, a 2010 inductee into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
He played on Friar teams that won the NJSIAA State Tournament of Champions following his sophomore and junior years and he entered his final high school game (a defeat in the Non-Public 'B' final) having been on the winning side in 93 of the prior 94 games.
