WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The NJIT men's swimming and diving earned eight first place finishes in their 135-69 victory over Monmouth in their last regular meet of the season on Saturday afternoon.
The Highlanders finished first in eight out of 11 events.
NJIT took both relays, winning the 400 medley relay with
Scott Quirie,
Justin Sherrill,
Haydn Pak and
Jack Matusiak and the 200 free relay with
Michael Sungurov,
Tyler Pollock,
Maxim Tillmann and
Matheus Monteiro Montarroyos.
The Highlanders swept first, second and third places in four events.
In the 1000 free Pak,
Brendan Kavanagh and
Eddie Filipovic finished 1,2,3 earning the Highlanders 16 points in one event.
Pollock and Tillmann tied for first in the 50 free with a time of 23.11, and following close behind was freshman Sherrill coming in at 23.55.
In the 100 back Quirie swam in 53.62,
Kevin Roberton in 58.60, and
Edward Mann in 1:00.79, taking the top three spots in the event.
The last sweep by the Highlanders came in the 500 free, led by Montaroyos who finished in 4:52.10 followed by Tillman and Kavanagh.
Montarroyos and Sungurov added two more first place finishes for NJIT, Montarroyos in the 200 free (1:45.23) and Sungurov in the 100 free (50.15).
The last meet for the Highlanders in 2017 is the CCSA Championships held in Athens, GA from February 15-19.
