NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team picked up two 6-1 wins Sunday defeating Sacred Heart and Saint Peter's The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
"This was a great weekend for NJIT men's tennis", head coach
Ira Miller commented. "I'm proud of how well the guys played."
In the first match of the day, NJIT earned the doubles point sweeping the doubles contests and taking five out of six singles contests against Sacred Heart for a 6-1 victory.
NJIT doubles pair
Markus Schultz and
Arnaud Holl recorded a 6-2 victory at first doubles defeating Matt Dunn and Brian Power. Schultz won by identical scores at first singles, 6-2, 6-2, topping Justin Pagan while Holl won at the fourth spot, 6-2, 6-3, over Mathieu Pilote-Schraenen.
Andres Alban and
Jan Cimrman teamed for a 6-1 victory at second doubles against Corey Seltman and Pilote-Schraenen. Alban won in straight sets at second singles, 6-1, 7-5.
Doubles tandem
Richard Rangga and
Luka Kaic defeated Justin Pagan and Karan Narula 6-2 at third doubles spot. Rangga recorded a 6-2, 6-3 victory at fifth singles while teammate
Carl Jedlinski combined for a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the sixth spot topping Anthony Savio.
In the second match of the day against Saint Peter's, NJIT swept doubles competition and were winners of five of six singles contests cruising to a 6-1 victory.
Highlander duo Schultz and Holl recorded a 6-2 victory at first doubles topping Saint Peter's Carlos Carrera and Daniil Ivanov. Schultz won in straight sets at first singles, 6-3, 6-1 while doubles partner Holl won by identical scores at the fourth spot, 6-1, 6-1 against Lukus Whalley.
NJIT's Alban and Cimrman blanked Jorge Rodriguez and Andres-Sebastian Rojas, 6-0, at second doubles. Cimrman picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory at third singles.
Rangga and Jedlinksi won 6-1 at third doubles, topping Whalley and Jonathan Paredes. NJIT's Rangga combined for a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Rojas at fifth singles while Kaic won by identical scores, 6-2, 6-2 at the sixth spot.
NJIT, who improves to 4-0 on the young season, will return to action on Wednesday at Penn.
