North Florida Stops Highlanders

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, FL—North Florida rolled to a 3-0 victory over visiting NJIT in Atlantic Sun Conference women's soccer Friday night at Hodges Stadium.

The Ospreys (2-1 Atlantic Sun; 4-8 overall) were never in jeopardy against NJIT (0-3 Atlantic Sun; 2-10 overall), as the home team scored two first-half goals while not allowing the visitors a shot on the other end of the field in the opening 45 minutes.

NJIT managed four shots in the second half, but none were on frame and North Florida tripled the Highlanders' shots over the second 45 minutes, 12-4. The Ospreys added one goal in the second half for the 3-0 final.

North Florida got all the scoring it would need when a long pass out of midfield by Lanie Keating found Kayla Aritt, who went 1-v-1 against NJIT goalkeeper Samantha Bersett and slotted the ball home at the nine-minute mark for a 1-0 lead.

Freshman Gabby Daudet made it 2-0 for the Ospreys on her first college goal in the 38th minute, with assists given to Kendall Pollock and Krista Colubiale. The score was set up on another long pass from Pollock to Colubiale, who found Daudet near the top of the box.

The final goal came off a set piece in the 55th minute. North Florida had a corner kick that was deflected by NJIT's Bersett, but Keating, who had assisted on the first goal, was there to knock in the loose ball for her team's final goal.

The final shot totals found North Florida with a 17-4 advantage, including 4-0 in shots on goal.

Both teams used multiple goalkeepers, with the victorious Ospreys using three keepers for the clean sheet. Susie Ford started and played the opening half, with Victoria Ekeli and Zakiya Chambers seeing action in the second half. None of the trio needed to make a save.

Bersett, the NJIT starter, played 62:49 and was on for all three North Florida goals. She did not have a save. Karen David came in and made the only save of the night for the Highlanders without allowing a goal in the last 27:11.

The Highlanders will go across town in Jacksonville for their next match, also an Atlantic Sun contest on Sunday at 1 pm vs. Jacksonville University. Sunday's game at Jacksonville is the last scheduled away contest for the Highlanders, who will close the 2015 schedule with three A-Sun home games.
