NJIT will host Lehigh on Saturday, January 5 at 2pm in the Fleisher Athletic Center as the Highlanders look to register its first all-time victory over the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh holds a 6-0 record.
The Highlanders, which are 5-2 at home this season, are coming off a 72-36 loss at Colgate Thursday evening, where the Highlanders trailed 41-22 at the half as the Raiders cruised to the win with a 31-point second half, holding NJIT to just 14 second half points.
Senior
Melanie Griffin was NJIT's leading scorer with nine points, while fellow senior
Rayven Johnson pulled down a team-best 10 boards.
NJIT is led by current Great West Conference Player of the Week
Rayven Johnson who is averaging close to a double-double with 16.4ppg and 9.3rpg. The senior ranks third in the Great West in scoring.
Sophomore
Sarah Olson ranks second on the team with 9.0ppg and has connected on a team-best 35 three-pointers.
Junior forward
Uju Nwankwo ranks third on the team with 7.2ppg and 6.3rpg leading the Highlanders with 28 total blocks, ranking 68th in the nation with (1.75). Nwankwo has at least one block or one steal in 14 out of 16 games this season.
NJIT and Lehigh have one common opponent - Saint Peter's. The Highlanders defeated the Peacocks in Jersey City (62-35) on December 11 while the Mountain Hawks won by two-points (62-60) at Saint Peter's on November 14.
Lehigh Notes
After an impressive 66-57 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday, the Lehigh women's basketball team will take to the hardwood for its final non-league road game on Saturday when it travels to Newark, NJ.
Lehigh owns a 6-0 record against NJIT in program history dating back to the 2006-07 season, including a 65-54 victory at the Prudential Center in 2008. Lehigh averages an 18.0 point win margin over NJIT and has never allowed more than 58 points in any game against the Highlanders.
Kerry Kinek continues to lead the Mountain Hawks with 11.3 ppg and 8.9 rbg, but has received help from multiple players as of late including Becky Guman who is averaging 12.7 ppg and 7.0 rbg over her last three contests.
Katie O'Reilly has found her touch of late, scoring in double figures in four of her last five games with an average of 11.6 points per game over those five tilts. Senior Marybeth Egan leads the team with 33 assists, but Weaver trails by just five (28) after 23 over her last seven games (3.3 apg).
