NEWARK, NJ—NJIT junior
Moheb Thomas captured the 2012 NJIT Classic title Sunday at Branch Brook Park as the NJIT men's cross country team went 2-0 in the home opener.
Thomas finished the 8k run with a time of 26:46.06, as he competed against runners from Saint Peter's and Hofstra. Sophomore
Daniel Rondon placed second with a time of 27:18.56 for the Highlanders.
The Highlanders had six other runners finish in the top 10 –

Louis Scheideler (7
th),
Kyle O'Brien (9
th) and
Matt Brown (10
th).
"Due to this year's depth and talent, we still managed to keep five runners out of the lineup at still have a commanding presence in the team scores (NJIT 15-Hofstra 50 and NJIT 18- SPC 44)." head coach
Al Alonso stated. "Today, we saw 3 new names in the top 5. I was pleased with our performances as we have not backed off on the training. I expect even more improvements by the time we enter the competition phase of training."
The NJIT men will return to action on September 28 at the Paul Short Classic hosted by Lehigh.
