NEWARK, NJ
—Senior Brian Mendez was the top finisher for NJIT at the 9th Annual Technology XC Challenge Sunday at Branch Brook Park.

This was the largest meet hosted by NJIT, with 24 teams represented.  The men's meet course record was broken as well as having eight new top 25 times.

Mendez finished the 8k course with a time of 25:26.05, placing fourth overall.  In scoring against Saint Peter's and Fairleigh Dickinson, Mendez took second.

Junior Scott Rizzo and Moheb Thomas crossed the finish line with a time of 26:18.24 and 26:35.72 respectively for the Highlanders.  Classmate Louis Scheideler finished with a time of 27:06.63 while freshman Kevin Ratigan finished right behind at 27:10.84.

Other Highlanders represented at the meet were: Michael Martins, Jonathan Daudelin, Carlos Alarcon, Matthew Brown, Norman Hamilton, Nathaniel Bailey II and Timothy Daudelin.

"All the men hit seasonal bests this weekend with several setting personal bests for 8k." said head coach Al Alonso.  " I was very pleased  with how the men did for this meet.  The men were clearly the top team there even though seven athletes (including two of the top three) sat out.  I am happy where we are as we enter the next phase of training in preparation for Championship portion of the season."

The Highlanders defeated Fairleigh Dickinson (22-39) and Saint Peter's (21-40).  In cross country the lower score wins.

NJIT will return to action on Saturday, October 13 at the Princeton Invitational.
