NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's and women's tennis teams blanked Saint Francis (PA), 5-0, Saturday morning at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
In men's action, freshman Petr Rousar and sophomore Joao Tasca won in straight sets at first and second singles. Rousar defeated Youlian Natchev, 7-5, 6-4, and Tasca was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Matthew Jurjevich.
Highlanders Dan Salomon playing a the third spot went three sets with Andres Rosa but came out on top 6-7(6), 6-0, 7-6(3) while Martin Cederqvist also went the distance with Stephen Kowalski. The Red Flash's Rosa grabbed the first set, 6-2, but Cederqvist bounced back with a 6-2, 10-4 win for the victory.
Doubles pair Bryan Keelan and Fraser Croad were 8-2 winners at first doubles over Nathaniel Fleming and Kirby Mendes.
On the women's side, three Highlander women recorded straight set victories against Saint Francis (PA). Senior Nina Mayevska was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at first singles over Devynn Sarver. Ana Lidon, playing at the third spot and Martina Tripcovici at the fourth spot, won by identical scores, 6-0, 6-0.
Freshman Jana Luste fought out a three-set tilt at second singles with Alex Foty. Foty won the first set 6-4 but Luste was victorious and took the set, 6-3, 10-7.
In doubles competition, Highlander duo Ksenia Kuzmenko and Hannelore MacDonald were 8-1 winners at first doubles. Lidon and Monika Graff competing at second doubles and Tripcovici and Megan Guidry at the third spot blanked Saint Francis (PA), 8-0.
NJIT will host Hartford at 5pm in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
