HACKENSACK, NJ – The NJIT men's and women's indoor track and field teams picked up where they left off on Friday by breaking numerous records at the Knights Classic hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson Sunday afternoon.

Freshman
Esther Alfaro broke the women's 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.4 and was then joined by
Maryam Haque,
Alexandra Arnold, and
Kelly Smith breaking the freshman 4x800 relay.
Other top performers included,
Ewelina Marut taking placing second in the women's 3000 meter run with a time of 10:53 (11 seconds faster than last year). Marut was followed closely by
Breanne Hollenbach, who finished third with a time of 11:24.
Kayla Howell finished third in the women's 1000 meter run with a time of 3:18.9 (10 seconds faster than last year) while
Aya Elsekhely was six seconds ahead of last years time with a 3:34 mark.
Smith won the women's triple jump with a 9.52m and
Lauren Dupuis took second in the women's shot put with a distance of7.96m.
The only loss on the day for the women came against FDU (NJIT 145, FDU 180). NJIT defeated St. Francis (NY) (NJIT 170, St. Francis 137) and Long Island (NJIT 164, LIU 92).
On the men's side,
Pierre Damis broke the men's 55 meter hurdles record with a time of 7.6 while freshman
John Porteous broke the freshman 55 meter hurdles at 7.9. Pierre's performance was good for second place.
Porteous was joined by
Evan Walton,
John Cruz and
Matt Brown in the 4x200 relay, which took second with a record time of 1:33.3.
The same quartet came back later in the 4x400 relay and broke the freshman record with a 3:35.8.
The 4x800 relay team consisting of
Brian Mendez,
Miguel Tlatelpa,
Scott Rizzo and
Moheb Thomas broke the school-record with a time of 8:17.0.
Paul Caravaglia broke his own two-day old records in the men's shot put and men's weight throw with a distance of 12.78m and 8.45m.
NJIT's
Louis Scheideler won the men's 1000 meter run with a time of 2:50.1 while
Daniel Rondon matched
Brian Mendez's 2010 time in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:52.00.
The only loss on the day for the men came against FDU (NJIT 146, FDU 193) while the Highlanders defeated Long Island (NJIT 167, LIU 54) and St. Francis (NY) (NJIT 157, St. Francis 135).
