2nd Annual MAC Classic
Knights Classic
The NJIT men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened up its 2010 indoor season this weekend at the 2nd Annual MAC Classic hosted by Monmouth on Saturday and the Knights Classic on Sunday at Fairleigh Dickinson.
On Sunday at the Knights Classic, both men's and women's teams went 4-1 on the day. The Highlander men defeated Iona (174-74), Long Island (169-69), St. Francis (NY) (153-116) and Saint Peter's (166-42) with the lone loss coming against host FDU (165-158).
The women topped Iona (188-57), Long Island (184-84), St. Francis (NY) (191-121) and Saint Peter's (176-77) while being edged by host FDU (179-162). The NJIT women recorded four varsity school records and seven freshman school records.
Aya Elsekhely notched a freshman record in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of (11.40) while Vincia Jackson set school records in the 55 meter dash (7.20; second place) and 300 meter dash (44.10; fourth place).
Sophomore Ewelina Marut captured the 3000 meter run setting an NJIT school-record with a time of 11:04.30. Freshman Kelsey Jackson set a varsity and freshman record in the 400 meter dash, taking second place with a time of 60.40. Jackson was also a member of the freshman record setting 4 x 400 relay. Freshman Gabi Whalen placed in the top 5 with a distance of (10.40m).
On the men's side, sophomore Brian Mendez finished second in the men's 3000 meter run at 8:58.10 and fourth in the men's 1000 meter run at 2:50.50 for NJIT.
Weight thrower Josh Dolisca took second in the men's shot put (14.44m) and weight throw (15.05m).
On Saturday at the 2nd Annual MAC Classic the Highlanders set two school-record and two freshman records. Eric Prebor set both a varsity and freshman record in the pole vault with a height of 12-7 (3.84m).
In the men's 4 x 55 meter relay which consisted of -- Ruben Santos, Morgan Atkins, Prebor and Martin Craig set a school-record with a time of 27.72. Atkins took fifth in the men's 300 meter dash with a time of 38.26.
The 4 x 1600 meter relay set a freshman record with a time of 3:56.27. The relay consisted of -- Scott Rizzo, Louis Scheideler, Kyle O'Brien and Moheb Thomas.
