BETHLEHEM, PA—Lehigh scored three times in each half for a decisive 6-0 win over visiting NJIT in non-conference women's soccer Sunday afternoon.
The Mountain Hawks (5-2-2) got goals from five different players and assists from four different players in the rout.
Ali MacLeod scored twice and Lehigh got one goal each from Jana Basubas, Jaime Townsend, Natalie Hojnacki, and Lauren Bradford.
Hojnacki assisted on three goals, including the first two, and the Mountain Hawks got single assists from Isabelle Li, Megan Cain, and Liz Carlos.
Both starting goalkeepers played the full 90 minutes. Lehigh's Ali Griffin made two saves, while NJIT's Sadie Mele stopped seven shots.
The overall shots decisively favored Lehigh, as well, with the Mountain Hawks posting a 23-3 advantage. The shots on goal were 14-2.
Lehigh got on the board in the 16th minute when Basubas scored into the top right corner shooting from the top of the box, assisted by Hojnacki.
The senior Hojnacki, whose three assists were the most for a Lehigh player since 2003, got her second helper on the second goal, She broke down the right side and took a hard shot that was blocked, but caromed to MacLeod, who knocked the ball home at 26:41.
Townsend made it 3-0 in the 39th minute and Lehigh went on to match its first-half goals total over the final 45 minutes. The second-half goals came in the 60th minute (Hojnacki), the 71st minute (Bradford, on Hojnacki's third assist), and the 87th minute (MacLeod's second goal of the day).
NJIT (1-9-1) will play five of its remaining six regular season games in the Great West Conference, starting with a 7 pm game on Friday at Delaware State in Dover, DE.
