NEWARK, N.J. - The NJIT women's soccer team (5-2-3, 0-0-1 AE) plays its America East home opener against UAlbany (1-6-2, 0-1 AE) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
Last Time Out
The Highlanders extended their unbeaten streak to six games with a 1-1 draw against UMass Lowell in its America East opener on Sept. 21.
Emily Jozak scored her second goal of the season in the 7th minute, assisted by
Maria Nogueira and
Sofia Mignon.
NJIT Ranks No. 152 in NCAA RPI
NJIT currently ranks No. 152 in the NCAA Women's Soccer RPI, which is second-best in the America East. The Highlanders ranked as high as No. 113 this season, which is the second-highest in program history and the best since reaching No. 108 in 2018.
NJIT is second in the America East in total goals (15), assists (15), and points (45). The Highlanders are also third in the America East in goals allowed (10).
Andreoli Sets Another Program Record
With her goal against Seton Hall,
Briana Andreoli broke the Division I program record with 16 career goals. She is also tied with Erika Taugher, Cathy Wasko, and Erin Salgado for the most goals in overall program history. The senior currently holds the Division I program record with 41 career points.
Andreoli earned the America East Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season on Sept. 8 after recording seven points (3 goals, 1 assist) against Wagner and Seton Hall.
Andreoli currently ranks second in the America East in goals (4) and assists (3) this season, and third in points (11). The Hawthrone, New Jersey product was selected to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team for the second consecutive season. She ranked second on the team with nine points (3 goals, 3 assists) last season while playing all 17 games.
Strong Goalkeeper Play
Freshman goalkeeper
Enya Carthy leads the America East in goals against average (.800) and save percentage (.840). She did not allow a goal in four straight appearances from Aug. 27 to Sept. 7. Carthy earned the America East Rookie of the Week on Sept. 2 after allowing zero goals on 14 shots faced against Lehigh and Rider.
Senior goalkeeper
Mojisola Ayodele recorded a career-high 12 saves against North Texas on Sept. 13 — her second straight game setting a personal best, after making seven saves against Lafayette on Sept. 11. She only allowed one goal on 43 shots faced in her last two games.
Scouting UAlbany
UAlbany enters the match with a 1-6-2 record, most recently falling to Maine, 1-0, on Sept. 21.
Madison Hnis leads the Great Danes with four points (2 goals) this season. UAlbany leads the all-time series, 6-1-2, including a 3-1 win over NJIT last season.
