SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The NJIT women's soccer team (3-2-1) travels to South Orange to play Seton Hall (2-3-1) on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Owen T. Carroll Field.
NJIT NEWS & NOTES
NJIT fell short in a comeback attempt against Wagner after giving up three goals in the first half, losing 3-2. The Highlanders had a chance to tie the game in the final ten seconds off the corner kick, but
Riley Jones' shot hit the post.
Before the game against Wagner, NJIT recorded four consecutive shutouts with wins against Mount St. Mary's, Saint Peter's, and Rider. Over the last five games, the Highlanders outshot their opponents 88-33.
Ciara Adams has a team-high six points this season with two goals and two assists, ranking fourth in the America East. She earned the America East Offensive Player of the Week on September 3 after scoring all six points against Saint Peter's and Rider.
Caroline Caputo is the other Highlander with two goals this season, netting both against Saint Peter's for her first multi-goal game.
Emily Jozak is tied for a team-high two assists.
Briana Andreoli scored the 10th goal of her NJIT career in the 70th minute against Wagner, assisted by Caputo. With her goal, Andreoli is now tied for fourth all-time in goals and ranks sixth in points (24) in the Division I era. The Hawthrone, New Jersey native was selected to the 2024 America East Conference Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference team after leading the team with six goals and three assists for a team-high 15 points in 2023. She has one goal and one assist this season.
Maria Nogueira scored her first goal of the season and fourth of her career in the 55th minute against Wagner, assisted by
Kelsey Ramos. Ramos has recorded a point in each of the last two games.
Nogueira and
Taylor Pape anchor the strong Highlander defense, playing all 90 minutes in the first six matches. NJIT has blocked 18 shots, including ten against top-50 Rutgers.
SCOUTING SETON HALL
Seton Hall enters the contest with a 2-3-1 record, falling to No. 5 North Carolina, 2-0 on September 1.
Natalie Tavana is the leading scorer for the Pirates with a team-high five points (two goals, one assist). Chiara Pucci is the other Seton Hall player with two goals this season.
Seton Hall leads the all-time series 1-0-1. The last match between the two teams ended in a scoreless draw on August 25, 2022.
