Tulsa, Okla. – NJIT men's tennis star
Pablo Perez Ramos competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Tournament over the weekend, dropping his opening round match to Alberto Orso of Virginia Tech in three sets.
Perez Ramos fought valiantly against his opponent, bouncing back to take the second set, 7-5, after dropping the opening frame, 6-3. Forcing the third set, Perez Ramos was unable to take the victory to advance in the bracket.
Despite the loss, Perez Ramos returned the next day to take a victory in the consolation bracket. The redshirt junior notched an impressive win over a strong foe, defeating Hiroki Sakagawa of UC Irvine, 6-2, 6-3.
"This year's tournament was played in some very harsh conditions," said Head Coach
Marco Matteucci. "On day one we competed in 99 degree weather, and Pablo played a very good match that lasted two-and-a-half hours. Although the tough loss, he still was able to bounce back on day two and win against a tough opponent and come home with a win. I am happy that we are to walk away with a win and having competed to our best during these conditions."
Perez Ramos and the rest of the Highlanders will return to action next weekend at the Yale Invitational.
