SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The NJIT women's soccer team (3-4-1) begins America East Conference play on the road against Bryant (2-4-3) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Beirne Stadium.
NJIT NEWS & NOTES
NJIT looks to bounce back after losing three straight matches, most recently falling to Lafayette 1-0 on September 15. Prior to those losses, the Highlanders recorded four consecutive shutouts with wins against Mount St. Mary's, Saint Peter's, and Rider. Over the last seven games, NJIT outshot its opponents 105-55.
Ciara Adams has a team-high six points this season with two goals and two assists. She earned the America East Offensive Player of the Week on September 3 after scoring all six points against Saint Peter's and Rider.
Caroline Caputo is the other Highlander with two goals this season, netting both against Saint Peter's for her first multi-goal game.
Emily Jozak is tied for a team-high two assists.
Briana Andreoli scored the 10th goal of her NJIT career in the 70th minute against Wagner, assisted by Caputo. With her goal, Andreoli is now tied for fourth all-time in goals and ranks sixth in points (24) in the Division I era. The Hawthrone, New Jersey native was selected to the 2024 America East Conference Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference team after leading the team with six goals and three assists for a team-high 15 points in 2023. She has one goal and one assist this season.
Maria Nogueira and
Taylor Pape anchor the strong Highlander defense, playing all 90 minutes in the first eight matches. NJIT has blocked 22 shots, including ten against top-50 Rutgers.
SCOUTING BRYANT
Bryant enters the contest with a 2-4-3 record, playing to a scoreless draw against Northeastern on September 15.
Jordyn Collins leads the Bulldogs in scoring with seven points this season (3 goals, 1 assist). Whitney Vaillant was named the America East Rookie of the Week on August 26 after scoring her first career goal against Marist. Goalkeeper Selena Negron has made 36 saves in eight games.
NJIT leads the all-time series 3-2. The Highlanders beat the Bulldogs 1-0 in Newark last season.
