Newark, Del. – The NJIT men's tennis team opened up its fall slate of matches at the Delaware Invitational over the weekend. The Highlanders faced the host Blue Hens on Saturday, sandwiched between matches against Temple on Friday and Georgetown on Sunday.

"We had a good long weekend against very good competition," said Head Coach Marco Matteucci. "I think we did a really good job in doubles and I like the fact that we won more matches on our final day of competition."

The doubles pairing of German Lopez Andujar and Soma Fukuhara won two of its three matches over the weekend, first winning in a tiebreak against Temple, 7-6 (5). The pair also claimed victory in its match against Delaware on Saturday, 6-1.

Fukuhara continued his strong weekend in singles play, taking down Arthur O'Sullivan of Georgetown, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 10-7. This came on the heels of taking sets against each of his opponents in singles action on Friday and Saturday.

Severin Risan and Tom Sorin also came away with singles victories against the Hoyas on Sunday. Risan won his match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, while Sorin battled to a three set win, 6-3, 1-6, 10-8. Sorin's win was paired with his doubles victory from Friday against Temple, where he and Oscar Callo von Platen earned the win, 6-2.
