Women’s Soccer Looks To Bounce Back Against Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. - The NJIT women's soccer team (3-3-1) aims to rebound against Lafayette (2-2) on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
 
NJIT NEWS & NOTES
NJIT has lost its last two matches, falling 3-2 against Wagner on September 5 and 1-0 against Seton Hall on September 8. Prior to those losses, the Highlanders recorded four consecutive shutouts with wins against Mount St. Mary's, Saint Peter's, and Rider. Over the last six games, NJIT outshot its opponents 99-47.
 
Ciara Adams has a team-high six points this season with two goals and two assists. She earned the America East Offensive Player of the Week on September 3 after scoring all six points against Saint Peter's and Rider.
 
Caroline Caputo is the other Highlander with two goals this season, netting both against Saint Peter's for her first multi-goal game. Emily Jozak is tied for a team-high two assists.
 
Briana Andreoli scored the 10th goal of her NJIT career in the 70th minute against Wagner, assisted by Caputo. With her goal, Andreoli is now tied for fourth all-time in goals and ranks sixth in points (24) in the Division I era. The Hawthrone, New Jersey native was selected to the 2024 America East Conference Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference team after leading the team with six goals and three assists for a team-high 15 points in 2023. She has one goal and one assist this season.
 
Maria Nogueira and Taylor Pape anchor the strong Highlander defense, playing all 90 minutes in the first seven matches. NJIT has blocked 22 shots, including ten against top-50 Rutgers.
 
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
Lafayette enters the contest with a 2-2 record, earning a 1-0 victory against Seton Hall on September 12.
 
Nadia Zaffanella is the leading scorer for the Leopards with two goals, including the game-winner against Seton Hall in the 17th minute. Goalkeeper Catherine Apker has made 23 saves in four games this season.
 
Lafayette leads the all-time series 7-0-3. The last matchup between the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw on September 4, 2022.
