Pedro Trevino Announces Six Newcomers to 2024 NJIT Women's Volleyball Roster

The Six Newcomers Join 11 Returners to Make Up the 2024 Roster

NEWARK, N.J. – NJIT women's volleyball sixth-year head coach Pedro Trevino has announced the addition of six newcomers to the roster as the 2024 season approaches. One graduate transfer, a sophomore and four freshmen comprise the new faces that will take the floor for the Highlanders this fall.

Joining the squad for 2024 are Ilayda Dincer, Aries Fontaine, Cece Marino, Finley McAndrew, Patricia Rakova and Ema Torres.

Dincer transfers into NJIT for her graduate season after spending three seasons at Arkansas State and one at Temple. The Ankara, Turkey product tallied 1.92 kills per set in 119 sets across 47 career matches while at Arkansas State. She ranked second on the team in points per set (2.64) and third in kills per set (2.25) during her senior season in 2023.

Fontaine makes the short trek to Newark after playing four years of varsity volleyball at Elizabeth High School. She was named the New Jersey Section 2 Player of the Year this past season and was also named to both the All-County and All-State squads.

Marino comes to North Jersey after a decorated career at Marlboro High School. The Freehold native was named to the All-Division A North team during each of the last two seasons, as well as earning All-Shore recognition in both years. Marino also competed for Princeton Volleyball Club, earning an AAU Volleyball Nationals Academic All-American Award in 2022 and 2023.

McAndrew joins the Highlanders from Valley High School in Des Moines, Iowa, where she led her team to three state tournament appearances in her four seasons. During her career, McAndrew earned Central Iowa Metro League First Team All-Conference, as well as CIML and Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-Academic Awards. She played club volleyball for Iowa Powerplex U17, landing on the Prep Dig All-Iowa Top 250 list.

Rakova hails from Verona, N.J. and played her high school volleyball at Verona High School. She racked up several individual performance awards during her time at Verona, including Second Team All-State and First Team All-Region honors. Rakova competed for Side Out Sports as her club team and also was a member of the track and field team in high school.

Torres comes to NJIT from Gondomar, Portugal where she competed for Colegio Paulo VI. While there, Torres became a decorated champion, winning four championships during her tenure there under head coach Eduardo Jamal.

NJIT opens its 2024 season on Friday, Aug. 30 as they take part the Salt City Classic in Syracuse, N.Y.
