Track and Field Takes On Trio Of Weekend Meets

BALTIMORE & COLUMBIA, S.C. — The NJIT track and field teams completed their busiest weekend of the season on Saturday, placing Highlanders at three different competitions up and down the eastern seaboard. NJIT sent athletes to the University of South Carolina Open, the Johns Hopkins/Loyola Invitational, and the Morgan State Annual Legacy Meet

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Two school records were set at the USC Open: Sanai Jenkins improved her mark in the 400 hurdles (1:02.23) and teamed up with Hayley Lucido, Grace Burke and Maddie Stevens to reset the 4x400 record (3:47.92) in the top finish at the event (4th).
  • Sarah Van Ornum provided the NJIT women with their lone victory of the weekend, placing first in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:43.31.
  • Freshman Sinit Mehari set a personal best in the Discus (28.91m / 94-10.00) as the lone Highlander woman competing at the Hopkins/Loyola meet.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jacob Leigh improved his own 200 meter record at South Carolina after running a 21.28 and Jason Ballen did the same in the Discus at Morgan State with a toss of 46.91m / 153-11.00.
  • Ballen put together the best overall efforts for the Highlander men at Morgan State: his Discus record toss was the runner-up showing and he won the Javelin with a throw of 59.93m / 196-7.00.
  • At Hopkins/Loyola, Andrew Sabeh (44.04m / 144-6.00) and Jaden Dixon (44.03m / 144-5.00) went 3-4 in the Hammer and Matthew Morena took fourth in the 5000 meters (15:11.25). Sabeh and Morena's marks were personal bests.
