Stevens, Leigh Earn America East Weekly Track and Field Honors

NEWARK, N.J. — NJIT Track & Field earned a pair of America East weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon as junior Maddie Stevens and senior Jacob Leigh were named this week's respective Female and Male Track Performers of the Week by the conference.

Stevens put together the top overall performance of NJIT's dual Jersey meet weekend last weekend. Running at the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational, the Nashua, N.H. native won the 400 meters with a personal best, school record, and America East leading time of 54.30. The time beat former Highlander Sydne Nance's 2022 record of 55.08. Stevens also ran on the second-place 4x400 Relay (3:50.90) that currently ranks second in the America East.

Leigh started outdoor season strong by besting his own school record in the 200 meters - from 21.38 in 2023 to 21.36 - at the Sam Howell Invitational. The Scotch Plains native's time currently ranks first in the conference. Leigh was also part of two other top-five AE efforts - the No. 4 time in the 100 meters (10.62) and the third-best time in the 4x100 Relay (41.64).

The America East weekly awards are the second all-time for Stevens and first for Leigh. The honors are also the firsts for NJIT during the outdoor campaign, as the other seven all-time laurels came during indoor campaigns.

Stevens, Leigh and the Highlanders will return to action this weekend (Saturday, April 6) at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships in New York City.
