Lightener Breaks Long Jump School Record at Rutgers Holiday Classic

NJIT records 27 personal-bests and 14 top-five marks in school history

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Zaidah Lightener broke the long jump school record in her NJIT debut, jumping 5.72m to place fourth on Friday at the NYC Armory Track and Field Center.
 
The Highlanders impressed at their indoor season opener, recording 27 personal-bests and 14 top-five marks in school history.
 
William Mitchell won the 5,000m with a personal-best time of 14:56.43, which ranks third in program history. Mitchell improved his personal-best 5K time by 34 seconds.
 
Andrew Sabeh finished sixth with a personal-best weight throw of 15.65m, which is the second-best in school history.
 
Jeusten Jourdain posted a personal-best time of 8.56 in the 60m hurdles, which is the fourth-best in program history.
 
Oluwanifemi Olufowobi recorded a personal-best 60m hurdles time of 9.48, which ranks fifth in school history.
 
Gabriel Truehart clocked a personal-best 300m time of 34.61 to place fourth. His time is the second-best in program history, just 0.06 seconds slower than the school record held by John Porteous.
 
Kierstin Ashby ran a personal-best 300m time of 41.95, which is the second-best in school history.
 
Ryan Nartey posted an indoor-best triple jump of 13.92m, which is the fourth-best in school history. Marvellous Bassey achieved a personal-best triple jump of 13.90m, which ranks fifth in program history.
 
Raegan Bossard recorded a triple jump mark of 11.46m in her Highlander debut, which is the second-best in school history.
 
Pietro Carpentari finished third in the 600m with a personal-best time of 1:22.60, which is the third-best in program history.

Sanai Jenkins (1:40.18) and Lucia Julvez (1:40.21) rank fourth and fifth in program history for the 600m.
 
James Estafanous clocked a 1,000m time of 2:33.11, which is the fourth-best in school history.
 
Nadia Zhecheva posted a personal-best mile time of 5:12.72, which is the second-best in program history.
