18-match slate features ten home games, three new opponents and one historic trip

7/11/2023 1:31:00 PM

NEWARK, N.J. — The 2023 schedule for the NJIT women's soccer program has been announced by head coach Ally Nick. Like their 2022 slate, the Highlanders' 2023 schedule will consist of 18 total contests - ten home & eight away, ten non-conference and an eight-game America East calendar - and feature a trio of first-time opponents.

The season officially gets underway on August 17 as NJIT hosts Mount St. Mary''s for a 6 p.m. home opener. The Highlanders will play another home match on August 20 at 1 p.m. against Saint Peter's before embarking on a season-long three-game road trip.

Two of those three road contests will take place in California as NJIT will face new opponents California Baptist (August 24 at 10 p.m. Eastern) and UC Riverside (August 27 at 2 p.m Eastern) in the program's first-ever games in the Golden State. The matches will also be the team's first games in the Western United States since its final contests as members of the former Great West Conference (Oct. 5, 2012 at Utah Valley and Nov. 3, 2012 vs Howard in the GWC Tournament at UVU).

The last matchup of the road stretch will be closer to home - an August 31 meeting with LIU in Brookville, N.Y. (1 p.m.) - before the first of two three-game homestands during the campaign. The first one will see NJIT face FDU (September 3 at 1 p.m.), La Salle (September 7 at 7 p.m.) and Wagner (September 10 at 1 p.m.) in consecutive games.

NJIT's penultimate non-conference tilt and last non-league game before America East play will come against Columbia in New York City on September 13 at 7 p.m.

America East play begins at home for the Highlanders on September 17 at 1 p.m. against UAlbany. Two AE road games will follow, pitting NJIT against UMass Lowell (September 24 at Noon) and UMBC (September 28 at 7 p.m.).

October opens with the final non-conference match of the year and first of three straight at home against first-time foe George Washington (October 4 at 6 p.m.). The final two contests of the homestand will be Senior Day against Maine (October 8 at 1 p.m.) and Bryant (October 12 at 7 p.m.).

The Highlanders' last two road games will send them to New Hampshire on October 15 at 2 p.m. and Vermont a week later on October 22 at 1 p.m. before the regular season ends at home against Binghamton on October 26 at 7 p.m.

NJIT will look to qualify for the America East Tournament for the third straight year. The six-team playoff will take place October 29 (quarterfinals), November 2 (semifinals) and November 5 (finals).
