2023 MACFA Championship Results
MADISON, NJ–The NJIT men's fencing team earned a second-place finish at the 2023 MACFA Championships behind sophomore Christopher Cortez who captured the saber individual title Sunday afternoon hosted by Drew University.
Johns Hopkins was crowned 2023 MACFA Champions followed by NJIT (second-place), Stevens (third), Drew (fourth), and Rutgers to round out the top five.
Cortez, a sophomore from Morristown, NJ, captured the men's saber title out of 16 competitors.
The men's saber squad which consisted of Adrian Figueredo, Justin Petway, Jayson Zelaya and Cortez earned a third place team finish.
Niels Roubailo, a freshman from Walchwil, Switzerland, earned a second-place finish in the men's epee competition followed by graduate student Robert Hondor with a 10th place finish.
The men's epee squad which consisted of Hondor, Daniel Jeun and Roubailo took home the epee squad team title.
Senior Cristian Candescu led the foil squad with a sixth place finish followed by Josh Schaefer, who placed 13th.
The foil squad which consisted of Kevin Katayama, Candescu and Schaefer placed third as a team.
NJIT will return to action on March 11 at the 2023 NCAA Regionals hosted by Lafayette in Easton, PA.
