NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT women's basketball team will play its next two America East Conference games on the road, first visiting Binghamton on Wednesday, January 11.

Game Information 
Tip off is slated for 7pm inside Dr. Bai Lee Court with the game produced on ESPN+ and in-game statistics available on BUBearcats.com.

All-Time Series
Binghamton leads the all-time series, 4-3.  NJIT has won the last back-to-back games by 10 or fewer points.

America East Conference
NJIT will begin its third season in the America East and will play a schedule of 16 conference games against the other eight schools.  The Highlanders became the 10th full member of the America East on July 1, 2020 and were selected to finish fourth in the 2022-23 preseason coaches poll, receiving 42 votes.

NJIT has won its #AEHoops opener in all three of its seasons as a league member.  The Highlanders swept their opening week of games for the second straight year. In 2021-22 NJIT started the year 4-0 in conference play. 

America East Rookie of the Week Honors
Alejandra Zuniga picked up her second career America East Rookie of the Week honor, tallying 16 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal in a tight loss to Maine.

The 5-foot-6 guard from Madrid, Spain, finished 6-for-11 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free throw line in 26 minutes off the bench for the Highlanders.

Zuniga has reached double-digit scoring in the last four games and is averaging 10.3ppg and 2.5rpg this season.

Last Time Out
NJIT went on a late scoring run in the second half that helped the Highlanders cut a 19-point deficit to just three points with 1:30 remaining but visiting Maine used a 6-2 run to close out the game to secure a 69-63 road victory at NJIT on Saturday afternoon in America East women's basketball action inside the Wellness and Events Center.

NJIT, down by as many as 19 in the third quarter with 7:13 on the clock, used a 17-4 run to slim the Black Bear lead to single digits, five, 46-41, capped by a pair of free throws by Kenna Squier, heading into the fourth quarter.

Maine went up by 10-points five minutes into the fourth period, 59-49, but the Highlanders inched their way back, closing the gap to three, 63-60, after consecutive steals and layups with 1:28 play, resulting in a Black Bear timeout. 

Maine finished the game on a 6-3 spurt to secure the 69-63 road victory.

Scouting Binghamton
Binghamton enters Wednesday's America East matchup with a 9-7 overall record, 2-1 in the league.  The Bearcats have won two in a row, coming against Bryant (W, 57-56) and New Hampshire (W, 59-45).

The Bearcats, which last played on January 4 at New Hampshire, were paced by Genevieve Coleman (17 points) and Ella Wanzer (13) in the win over the Wildcats.

Binghamton is led by two double-figure players – Denai Bowman (12.3ppg) and Coleman (10.6ppg).  On the boards, Clare Traeger leads the America East with 8.5ppg followed by Coleman at 6.2rpg, which ranks seventh in the league.  Bowman sits in the top seven in scoring in the league.

Next Up
NJIT will conclude a quick two-game road swing on Saturday at 3pm when the Highlanders visit UAlbany.  The game will be played at Hudson Valley Community College.
