Track and Field Wraps Season, Impresses In Final Day of ECAC/ICAC

WILLIAMSBURG, VA — NJIT Track and Field concluded its 2021-22 season on Sunday after finishing the final day of the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships on the campus of William & Mary.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jacob Leigh produced the highest finish for any Highlander at the meet, tying for the silver in the high jump (1.95m / 6-4.75).
  • Leigh also added All-East honors in the 100 meters (8th; 10.85) and 200 meters (7th; 21.60) as a top-eight finisher.
  • Leigh's time in the 200 broke another eight year old school record of former Highlander great John Porteous (21.63) and was .02 shy of earning a top-six medal.
  • Matt Bacchi, Michael Girock, Thomas Van Saders, and Leigh medaled and earned All-East in the 4x400 Relay with a sixth place run of 3:17.89 while the women's 4x400 relay quartet of Grace Burke, Sydne Nance, Nadia Zhecheva, and Stuti Vyas set a new school record (3:56.72) and just missed on scoring with a ninth place finish.
  • Thomas Van Saders took fourth in the 400 hurdles to earn an event medal and All-East honors (54.31)
  • Sydne Nance improved her school record in the 400 meters from 55.24 from the America East Championships to 55.08 on Sunday to earn All-East and event medal honors with a 5th place run.
OVERALL PERFORMANCES
  • The Highlanders closed out the season by setting six total school marks and earning four event medals at the two-day ECAC/IC4A meet.
  • The NJIT men scored 17.33 points to end the meet in 15th while the women scored four points to place 32nd.
