Kelly Wins Javelin To Close Out Day Two Of Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, VA — The second and final day of the 56th Annual Colonial Relays completed Saturday evening with a few more standout moments for the NJIT track and field teams.

HIGHLANDER VICTORIES

Thomas Kelly won the Javelin Throw with a toss of 56.30m / 184-8.00, more than six feet farther than second place. The mark also set a new personal best for Kelly and was the lone victory for the Highlanders at the meet.

TOP PERFORMANCES

In the men's 4x200 Relay, the quartet of Hamza Qureshi, Eugene Graves III, Thomas Van Saders and Jacob Leigh took fifth place after posting a time of 1:29.19.

Samuel Manu: 10th in Triple Jump (13.13m / 43-1.00)

SCHOOL RECORDS AND OTHER STANDOUTS

McKinleigh Mattie set a new school record in the Triple Jump with a mark of 10.90m / 35-9.25 (previous mark: 10.57 / 34-8.25, 2012). Each of her three jumps - now the three best in school history - would have reset the record. Mattie went 10.87m on jump 1, 10.73m on jump 2, and 10.90m on jump 3.
The Women's 4x400 Relay group of Grace Burke, Nadia Zhecheva, Mattie, and Sydne Nance nearly reset the school mark in running a sub-4:00, school No. 2 time of 3.59.83.

NJIT will return home to prepare for next weekend's Metropolitan Championships from April 8-9.
