STONY BROOK, NY–First place Stony Brook topped visiting NJIT, 76-38, in America East Conference action on Saturday inside Island Federal Credit Union Arena.
Stony Brook won its 14th straight game of the season, improving to 19-2 overall, 10-1 in the conference while the Highlanders suffered its third straight loss, moving to 10-11 on the season and 5-5 in the America East.
The Seawolves had three players reach double-figures led by a game-best 18 points by Anastasia Warren followed by Earlette Scott (15) and INdia Pagan (11). Forward Leighah-Amori Wool just missed recording a double-double, netting nine points and pulling down 10 rebounds and Mckenzi Bushee combined for nine points and nine rebounds in the win.
NJIT had two players reach double-digits led by Kenna Squier with a team-best 11 points and fifth-year Ellyn Stoll with 10 points. Stoll pushed her career three-point total to 194, which sits in second in the NJIT Division I era. Point guard Lyzi Litwinko grabbed eight rebounds while Kimi Evans chipped in six points and five rebounds.
Visiting NJIT held a one-point lead after the first 10 minutes, 15-14, but the Seawolves combined for 62 of its 76 points in the second, third and fourth quarters on its way to a 76-38 victory.
After a 4-1 early lead by Stony Brook, NJIT used a 13-3 over the next 3:20, sparked by a layup by Kiana Brereton for a 13-7 advantage. The Seawolves went on a 7-2 run to close out the first quarter to cut the Highlander lead to one, 15-14.
The Seawolves outscored the Highlanders 18-8 in the second quarter and took a 10-point lead heading into the half ahead 32-23.
Kenna Squier paced NJIT with seven points and four rebounds followed by Kimi Evans with five points and four rebounds. Stony Brook's Earlette Scott led all players with 10 points.
Stony Brook continued its momentum into the third quarter, pouring in 26 points and extending its lead to 58-29.
NJIT will return home and host New Hampshire on February 9 at 7pm inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.
Last season, NJIT captured its first America East Conference victory Saturday afternoon led by senior Ellyn Stoll and sophomore Kenna Squier's game-high 19 points en route to a 78-57 victory over New Hampshire at Lundholm Gymnasium.
The win for NJIT is the first of the 2020-21 season, first in the America East since joining the league in July 2020 and first all-time over the Wildcats.
