West Point, NY - The NJIT men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 setback to host Army West Point on Saturday morning at the Lictenberg Tennis Center.
Army West Point is now 6-2 on the young season, while the Highlanders' record now stands at 1-2.
The Highlanders went ahead 1-0 early after winnings the doubles point thanks to victories at both second and third doubles.
NJIT then earned wins from both
Abdullah Fouad and
Amine El Kholti at first and second doubles, respectively, but the Black Knights swept the next four singles positions to come from behind and clinch the match.Â
"I'm very happy for Abdullah as he won his first match of the season," said first-year Head Coach
Marco Matteucci. "Amine then won a good match against a good competitor and the rest of the men also competed well. We also did a good job overall in doubles play."
Fouad's victory came in straight sets, while El Kholti defeated his opponent in three sets.
"We improved mentally in some aspects, but need to keep putting in the work until we get over the hill," added Matteucci. "I think we are very close."
The Highlanders will look to get back in the win column on Friday when they welcome Monmouth to Newark. First serve is slated for 4pm in the Naimoli Tennis Center.Â
