Women's Soccer Rallies For Draw Against UAlbany

10/16/2022 3:08:00 PM

Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. — The NJIT women's soccer team rallied from a second half deficit to secure an America East point with a 1-1 road draw against the UAlbany Great Danes Sunday afternoon at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Sophomore Samantha Constantine started in goal for NJIT (3-8-5, 0-5-1 AE) as redshirt senior Molly Saylor - resting Sunday with an injury - missed her first game action since conceding the starting role to former Highlander Sophia Barros for 2020 Senior Day (played in Spring 2021) against UAlbany on April 10, 2021.
  • A tremendous chance to open the scoring came for the Highlanders in the 11th minute as a left side entry pass from grad Angela Harris caused sophomore Ciara Adams and UAlbany keeper Megan Hart to collide while going for the ball. Adams gathered the resulting rebound for a shot but it was blocked by a Great Dane defender in front of goal.
  • A bit of deja vu on the other side happened in the 32nd minute as a UAlbany corner kick led to a chance that forced grad Siani Magruder to clear the ball right off the line to preserve the empty scoreboard.
  • Both teams made three total saves - including the close calls each thwarted - in the first half and went into the locker room scoreless after 45 minutes.
  • UAlbany (6-8-2, 4-2-1 AE) scored the first goal of the game 52:00 into the match. After NJIT was literally inches from kicking home a corner service from junior Gabby Zalot les than a minute earlier, the Great Danes capitalized on their cross attempt with a header from Emily Jozak.
  • The Highlanders responded nearly 20 minutes later (71') on a goal by freshman Riley Jones. The New York native, who has seen her minutes increase in each of the previous five games, rewarded head coach Ally Nick's instilled confidence with a blast from nearly 20 yards out to tie the score.
EXTRA NOTES
  • Zalot made her return to the starting lineup after missing the previous three contests.
