BURLINGTON, VT–No. 12 Vermont scored a late goal in the first half and added three second half goals to push past visiting NJIT, 4-0, Saturday evening in America East Conference men's soccer action at Virtue Field.
Vermont, which entered Saturday's match with the nation's longest win streak, has now won 10 consecutive, improving to 11-1-1, 4-0-0 in the America East while NJIT moves to 3-5-4 overall, 0-2-2 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Vermont had the first scoring opportunity in the seventh minute on a close shot by Alex Nagy, saved by co-captain Samuel Reisgys.

Vermont added a late goal in the first half (42nd minute) off a free kick by Mutjaba Mirhasan's left-footed strike that touched off the NJIT wall and into the goal.

Through the first 45 minutes, Reisgys registered three saves after facing nine Catamount shots.

NJIT did not record a shot in the first half but combined for three corner kicks.

A minute into the second half, Reisgys made an exceptional save, punching the ball out over frame on a strike by Nagy.

Vermont doubled its score a minute later (47th minute) off a corner kick as Daniel Pacella collected the rebound inside the box and sent home the Catamounts second goal of the match for a 2-0 advantage.

NJIT's Alejandro Rabell recorded the first shot of the match for the Highlanders in the 48th minute on a blast that sailed high.

In the 51st minute, Max Murray tallied the Catamounts third goal of the match to jump ahead, 3-0.

Co-captain Goncalo Franco's header in the 71st minute was saved by Vermont's Nathan Silveria off a left-footed free kick by Maximus Barboto, who placed the ball on the back post.

Mirhasan scored the Catamounts fourth goal of the match, combining for a brace in the 71st minute.

With five minutes remaining in the match, Hugo Tavares turnaround shot inside the box was stopped by Silveria.

Reisgys finished the match with five total saves, facing 16 Catamount shots.

In the second half, NJIT combined for 10 overall shots led by Alejandro Rabell (4), Hugo Tavares (3) and Goncalo Franco (2). The overall corner kicks were even at 4-4.
