Post Game Interview with Coach Barboto and Jose Del Valle
NEWARK, NJ–Graduate student Jose Del Valle's brace led NJIT past Hartford, 4-0, to conclude the non-conference slate for the Highlanders at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
NJIT, which scored a season-best four goals, all coming in the second half, moved back into the win column, improving to 4-5-4 overall while Hartford, still in search of its first win in 2022 falls to 0-12 on the season.

"In the game of football your legs get tired and Hartford was defending for long periods of the game, '' said head coach Fernando Barboto. "We started to attack the wider channels more, which is what we needed to do from the beginning and as we did that we started to break them apart and showed conviction around the goal, especially Jose Del Valle."
HOW IT HAPPENED

After the first 45 minutes, NJIT dominated the totals (10-0) in overall shots and (5-0) in shots on goal.

Sophomore Asembo Augo put the Highlanders on the board in the 55th minute with a right-footed strike past the Hartford keeper. Freshman Jack Krongold and Eduardo Rossi were credited with the assist.

NJIT's Caden Pellito made his first save of the match in the 68th minute stepping up and denying the angle of the shot from Nicholas Castrovinci.

The home team went ahead 2-0 on a goal scored by Andrea Campoli, assisted by Jose Del Valle and Sergio Martinez Cubel in the 73rd minute.

Del Valle, who entered the game late in the 70th minute, scored a pair of goals within a span of three minutes – the first coming in the 85th minute and second in the 87th minute for the Highlanders.

Sophomore keeper Caden Pellito recorded the shutout, stopping a pair of Hawk shots.

The final overall shots were in favor of the home team – 24-4 (13-2 SOG) and 7-1 in corner kicks.
NOTEWORTHY

The goal for Augo was his third of the season and fourth of his young career.

The assist for Rabell was his 17 career assist, which is tied for first in the NJIT Division I era with Andrew Nino (2016-19).

With the brace against Hartford, De Valle paces NJIT with four goals (eight for his career). In addition, Del Valle was credited with an assist and finished the match with five points.

Joseph Davis, Luc Smith, Alejandro Rabell, Jack Krongold and Eduardo Rossi each registered their first assist of the 2022 season.

Martinez Cubel combined for his second collegiate assist.

Pellito picked up his first career shutout in 90 minutes of action in goal.

The 24 overall shots is a new season-high for the Highlanders (21 shots at Villanova; 9.14.22)
