BOSTON — NJIT women's soccer freshman Briana Andreoli has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday morning. The award is NJIT's third weekly accolade of the season, following Ciara Adams' and Molly Saylor's early season recognition. 

Andreoli, a Hawthorne native who has seen action in all 14 contests this season as a reserve, scored her first career goal in the Highlanders' 4-0 shutout of Delaware State on October 8 in their non-conference finale.

The goal - a header off a corner kick from grad Angela Harris - was even more impressive given its timing. Andreoli came off the bench before Harris took her free kick (35:03) and scored the goal seventeen seconds later (35:20), living up to her growing reputation as an extremely quick player.

Andreoli's award is the first America East weekly honor of her career, NJIT's second Rookie of the Week award, and the tenth overall honor for the program since joining the America East in July 2020.

Ioanna Papathedorou (Offensive) and Taylor Burgess (Defensive) of UMass Lowell earned this week's other awards.

NJIT will return to action and wrap up its current three-match homestand with a meeting against UMBC on Thursday, October 13. Kickoff in Newark is scheduled for 7 p.m.
