NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT women's basketball team will look to stay hot in America East Conference play when the Highlanders visit UMBC for a Wednesday matinee.

2021 Rewind
The NJIT women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season and it was a big one, recording its first Big Ten program win with a 61-49 victory at Wisconsin on November 14, 2021.
The win over Wisconsin started a three-game win streak for the Highlanders (ast time the Highlanders won three straight was in 2019-20 during a stretch of a pair of wins at home against St. Francis Brooklyn (Nov. 26, 2019) and Saint Peter's (Dec. 4, 2019) and on the road at Hartford (Dec. 7, 2019).
With a win at St. Francis Brooklyn on December 11, NJIT closed out the non-conference slate with a 5-6 overall record.
NJIT closed out 2021 with a bang, knocking off preseason favorite and defending America East Champions Stony Brook on December 30, 54-49, at home inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. It was the first time NJIT defeated the Seawolves in five meetings.
NJIT Knocks off Preseason Favorite and Defending America East Champions Stony Brook in America East Opener
The NJIT women's basketball team closed out 2021 with a win, holding off defending America East Champions Stony Brook, en route to a 54-49 home victory to open league action inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center Thursday afternoon.
NJIT, which knocked off Stony Brook, who was ranked No. 7 in the latest CollegeInside.com Mid Major Top 25 poll, recorded its sixth win of the season (the most wins since the 2018-19 season).
Highlanders Outscore Maine, 10-2 in Overtime to Move to 2-0
NJIT moved to 2-0 in the America East Conference, outscoring Maine 10-2 in overtime paced by Kenna Squier's career-best 24 points on its way to a 67-59 win on January 2.
The Highlanders outscored Maine 10-2 in overtime and 14-2 in the final 6:45. Sophomore Aria Myers led the Highlanders in the overtime, netting five points followed by Squier with four of her game-best 24 points coming in the final five minutes.
Trailing by four, 53-49 in the fourth quarter with 4:23 to play, NJIT used a 9-3 spurt to tie the game at 57 to force overtime. NJIT's Squier hit an up and under jumper just outside the paint to tie the game at 57 with forty two seconds remaining.
Lyzi Litwinko Named America East Player of the Week | January 10
In a 1-0 week for the Highlanders, the NJIT women's basketball team moved to 3-0 in the America East Conference behind sophomore Litwinko's third career double-double (19 points, 13 rebounds) to lead the Highlanders in a close 66-64 road victory at Binghamton Saturday afternoon inside Dr. Bai Lee Court at Events Center.
Litwinko's 19 points is one-point shy of her career-best mark (20 at Lafayette; 12.4.21) and 13 rebounds ties her personal best mark (13 rebounds vs. Hartford; 1.18.21). The 5-foot-8 guard shot 9-for-13 from the field and added two assists and did not turn the ball over in 34 minutes of action.
NJIT Sweeps America East Conference Weekly Awards | January 3
NJIT swept the America East Conference women's basketball weekly honors as Kenna Squier was selected Player of the Week and Trinity Williams was named Rookie of the Week the league office announced on Monday.
In a 2-0 week for the Highlanders, Squier averaged 17.5ppg, 4.5rpg, 3.5spg, 52.4% FG and 75.0% FT while Trinity Williams combined for 10 points, shot 83% from the field and added four rebounds in 13 minutes against Stony Brook.

NJIT held Stony Brook to just 28.1 percent shooting from the field and a season-low 49 points to earn the victory behind a team-best 11 points from Kenna Squier. Squier shot 4-of-9 from the field and added four rebounds.
Highlander Hits
NJIT enters the weekend on a four-game win streak after a win at St. Francis Brooklyn and opening America East action 3-0 with a 54-49 victory over the defending America East champions, and pre-season favorite, Stony Brook, 67-59 overtime win at Maine on January 2 and most recently a 66-64 win at Binghamton.
Squier leads NJIT in scoring at 12.1 points per game while Lyzi Litwinko and Ellyn Stoll join Squier in double-figures at 10.9 and 10.8 respectively. Litwinko paces the Highlanders with a team-high 6.8 rebounds, which ranks fifth in the league.
Stoll, NJIT's three-point threat as she ranked fourth in the league with 1.9 makes from beyond the arc per game.
NJIT ranks fifth in the America East in both scoring (59.9) and fourth in scoring defense (61.7) while leading the conference at 3.93 blocks per game.
1,000 Career Points Milestone for Ellyn Stoll
Stoll scored her 1,000 career point at Rider on December 1, 2021. Entering the game, Stoll needed eight points to hit the milestone. She becomes the fourth player in the NJIT Division I era to reach 1,000 career points and 10th all-time in NJIT women's basketball history.
Beyond the Arc
NJIT recorded a season-best nine three-pointers in the Highlanders 67-61 home win over Saint Peter's. The Highlanders connected on seven three-pointers three times this season -- vs. FDU (11/24), at CCSU (11/21) and at Wisconsin (11/14).
Stoll paces NJIT with 25 three-pointers.
Dishing Out Dimes
The 16 assists against Saint Peter's is season-best for NJIT. Three different Highlanders -- Maria Fux, Lyzi Litwinko and Ellyn Stoll posted four assists in the win. In a tough battle at Big East opponent Marquette, NJIT recorded 14 assists.
New Faces In 2022-23
The NJIT women's basketball team added a trio of high school standouts -- Avery O'Roke (Winchester, VA), Kyleigh Welsh (Clearwater, FL) and Alejandra Zuniga (Madrid, Spain) who are set to join the Highlanders in the Fall of 2022.
Scouting the Opponent
UMBC enters Wednesday's contest with a 1-9 overall mark, 0-0 in the America East after having five consecutive games postponed due to COVID-19 related protocols.
The Retrievers lone win of the season was the season-opener, a 79-33 win over Gettysburg.
UMBC has two double-figure scorers paced by Janee'a Summers (13.4ppg) and Onome-Juliet Esadah (10.7ppg). Esadah tops the team on the boards with 7.2rpg.

NJIT will return home for a 2pm tip-off against Albany on Saturday, January 15 inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. The game will be streamed live on ESPN3.
