UNION, NJ - The NJIT baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to visiting Maine at Jim Hynes Stadium on Saturday as the Black Bears took game one 10-1 and game two 14-2.
NJIT dropped to 7-15 on the season and 6-10 in the America East, while Maine is now 11-8 overall and 6-5 in AE action.Â
The Maine pitchers kept the Highlanders off balance all day, holding NJIT to just two hits in game one and only four in game two.Â
In game one, Maine jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first and added three more in the third for a comfortable 7-1 lead. The Black Bears added another run in the fourth and two more in the six to make the final margin 10-1.
NJIT got on the scoreboard first in game two as
Albert Choi led off the inning with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly from
Julio Marcano. The Highlanders led until the third inning when Maine plated three runs. The Black Bears broke the game open with three more runs in the fourth and followed it up with a five-run fifth en route to the 12-run victory.
Paul Franzoni recorded two of the Highlanders four hits.
The Highlanders will look to bounce back next weekend when they travel to Binghamton for another four-game America East series. The Highlanders are slated to play two games on Saturday and two more on Sunday.
