Men's Lacrosse Loses To Stony Brook In Road America East Matchup

STONY BROOK, N.Y. --- Despite a sensational opening quarter in its second America East contest, the NJIT men's lacrosse team was defeated by the Stony Brook Seawolves Sunday evening at Lavalle Stadium.

NJIT (0-4, 0-2 AE) started the game with a stellar offensive surge, matching the host Seawolves (3-3, 1-1 AE) after 15 minutes, 4-4. Stony Brook scored the first two goals of the game less than two minutes into the contest, but the Highlanders countered with a 3-0 spurt of their own to take the lead.

Led by sophomore Gavyn Willson, who assisted on each of the three goals, the Highlanders fought their way back into the game early. The first two scores came off the stick of freshman Jack Bowie (13:03 and 12:28), while the go-ahead score was converted by senior Collin Fogerty (12:13).

Stony Brook tied the game at 3-3 less than four minutes later (8:44) but four minutes after that, sophomore Owen Corry put NJIT back ahead with an unassisted score (4:21).

The first quarter closed after another Stony Brook goal with 1:15 remaining in the period.

Much to the Highlanders' chagrin, their momentum could not be sustained, as the Seawolves pulled away by scoring nine straight goals over the final three quarters.

Sophomore Liam Brown came one save shy of his season high, making 19 saves in the game and logging 10+ saves for the sixth time in his last seven games dating back to last season. Brown also led the team with four ground balls while freshman Teddy Grimley and senior Lynch Raby - in his first game of the season - led NJIT with a pair of caused turnovers.

OTHER NOTES
