NEWARK, NJ - NJIT women's volleyball Head Coach
Pedro Trevino, who will begin his second season coaching the Highlanders in August, has announced his 2020 recruiting class.
Trevino is bringing in four players who hail from four different states around the country.
"We are extrememly excited to have these four young women join our NJIT family," announced Trevino. "Each of these young ladies play for top clubs and have been playing against other great clubs so they will be ready to immediately step on the court and help our program continue to grow. It didn't take long to realize that each player has a very-high IQ on the court."
Joining the Highlanders this fall will be Kaitlyn Arias, Kaelyn Hulick, Kyla Lannert, and Elley Torres.
Kaitlyn AriasÂ
Position:Libero
Height: 5'5
Hometown:Â Wildomar, CAÂ
HS: Murrieta ValleyÂ
Club: Viper Volleyball Club (Temecula, CA)
Trevino on Arias:Â
"When Kaitlyn came on her visit you could tell our program was the right fit for her. Her attitude, both on- and off-the-court is something that will make her be very successful at NJIT. Every video that I watch of her you can just see her getting better and better. Both her passing and defense is at a high level, and something that will only make the program better."
Kaelyn Hulick
Position: Libero
Height: 5'5
Hometown: Pearland, TX
HS: Glenda Dawson
Club: Houston Juniors VBC (Houston, TX)
Trevino on Hulick:Â
Kaelyn's hustle is the first thing we noticed about her. That is such a great trait for a libero to have and something we feel will help our program. Not only does she have hustle, but her ball control is at an very high level. We know she is going to come in and work extremely hard and try to earn playing time right away as a freshman.
Kyla Lannert
Position: Setter/Right Side
Height: 5'10
Hometown: South Elgin, IL
HS: St. Charles North
Club: Club Fision Volleyball (Batavia, IL)
Trevino on Lannert:Â
Kyla's best trait is her attitude -- we noticed that right away. When she and her father came to campus, we just loved the way she handled herself. Kyla just wants to get better and will work as hard as she can to be the best player she can be. She wants it and that is something that we want to be contagious with all the other young women in our program. Not only can she set, but she can also hit so we can get creative in our offense when we have to.
Elley Torres
Position: Outside Hitter
Height: 5'9
Hometown: Newtown, PA
HS: Pennsbury
Club: Princeton Volleyball Club
Trevino on Torres:Â
We saw Elley play at the Northeast Qualifier last year, and the first thing that we noticed was how she played defense. She would be playing middle back off the court and then when the ball was set she would move to the right spot. You don't see a lot of players doing this anymore. On top of her great defensive skills, her offense will be a great weapon for us as well. Elley is a five-tool player (passing, blocking, serving, hitting, and defense) and somebody that will make us so much better in 2020.
