EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. --- The NJIT women's tennis team opened its two-match weekend slate with a 4-1 setback against Rutgers Friday afternoon at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.

Playing clinching rules, NJIT (2-2) found itself behind 1-0 early after Rutgers (4-1) earned the doubles point with wins in the top two flights.

Rutgers took a 2-0 lead over NJIT after winning the No. 4 singles flight but the Highlanders cut the Scarlet Knights' lead in half with a straight set victory from Mouna Bouzgarrou at No. 5.

However, NJIT could not build upon that first win as Rutgers closed out the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and three-set matches NJIT forced at No. 3 and No. 6 were left unfinished.

NJIT will host UConn tomorrow (February 8) at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
