NEWARK, N.J. --- NJIT Women's Soccer (2-2-1) will look for its third straight victory on Sunday as the Highlanders take on Iona College in the first of three straight non-conference road matches before beginning ASUN Conference play.
LAST TIME OUT
NJIT had its best game of the season September 5, shutting out Rider at home, 5-0, for its second straight win.
Fiona Wright led the way with a pair of goals, with the second giving her sole possession of the NJIT Division I record for career goals scored (13) previously held by alumna
Kori Washington (2007-10).
Bailey Chant,
Fiorella Doglio, and
Lauren Chamberlain each scored their first goals of the year to contribute to the triumph.
The 5-0 shutout was NJIT's largest since blanking Jacksonville 4-0 on the road last year (September 30) and its biggest in non-conference play since last year's NJIT-Rider matchup in Lawrenceville (2-0 on September 2).
DEFENSE WINS GAMES
The Highlanders currently rank first in the ASUN Conference in goals against average (.465) and save percentage (.882) while
Molly Saylor is pacing the league in save percentage (.875).
SAYLOR EARNS FIRST ASUN HONOR
For her efforts in the first two games of the season, Saylor earned the ASUN Conference's first Defensive Player of the Week award of the season. Saylor ended last weekend with a 0.43 goals against average, a .909 save percentage, one shutout and ten saves in 207:09 of playing time against UMBC at home and Maryland on the road.
ALL-TIME SERIES
NJIT and Iona will be playing for the 11th time in their history on Sunday. Iona holds a 3-6-1 all-time record in the series, but NJIT has won the last three meetings between the two clubs. Their last contest came last year, with the Highlanders shutting out the Gaels for the first time, 1-0 (August 24, 2018).
SCOUTING IONA
Iona comes into Sunday's game with a 1-4 record. The Gaels split their last two games, winning for the first time against St. Bonaventure on September 2 before falling at Central Connecticut State on September 5. Iona is led by Faith Preziosi (3 goals, 1 assist), Ciara Guglielmo (2 A), and Emma Havrilla (2.57 GAA, .667 save pct., 18 saves).
NEW ERA FOR NJIT ATHLETICS
Women's Soccer's opener against UMBC was the first regular season game played on NJIT's new field, which was completed this summer. It also marked the first on-campus contest for the Highlanders' three outdoor teams - women's soccer, men's soccer, and men's lacrosse - since November 7, 2015.

The Highlanders will be led by 2018 ASUN Coach of the Year
Ally Nick, ASUN Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection
Fiona Wright (11 goals in 2018), and Second Team All-ASUN honoree
Nicole Loehle (2 goals; started 17 games for ASUN's 4th-ranked defense at 1.17 goals allowed per game).
