AMHERT, MA – The NJIT women's soccer team dropped their road opener to UMass, 1-0, on Thursday evening.
The Minutewoman broke through in the 29th minute and found the back of the net to take an early 1-0 advantage.
The Highlanders entered halftime trailing by one before coming out with increased offensive pressure in the second half. The Highlanders recorded seven shots after halftime, including two on target, and earned two second-half corner kicks.
Sophomore Penelope Krieger turned in a strong performance in goal for the Highlanders, playing all 90 minutes and making seven saves.
Freshman Taylor Stuart led the team with three shots, including one on target, while junior Bella Ramirez and sophomore Filipa Heintzelmann each recorded two shots.
The Highlanders finished the match with 10 total shots, including two on target, while the Minutewoman recorded 21 shots and put eight on frame. The Highlanders earned three corner kicks compared to six for the Minutewomen.

NJIT will stay on the road as the Highlanders take on LeHigh on Sunday, Aug. 23, as the Highlanders take on UMass at 4 p.m. in Amherst.
