NEWARK, N.J. --- Winners of three straight games, NJIT Women's Soccer (3-2-1) will try to push its streak to four on Friday with a road matchup against the newly rebranded LIU Sharks on Long Island.
SCHEDULE NOTE: The contest has been moved from Brookville, N.Y. to NYIT's President's Stadium in Old Westbury, N.Y. Kickoff has also been moved back to 4:45 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Four different Highlanders scored goals to lead NJIT to a 4-1 road victory over the Iona Gaels on September 8.The team's third straight win marked the first time in program history that the Highlanders have scored four or more goals in back-to-back games. NJIT took a 2-0 lead into halftime on a pair of scores from the Magruder sisters. Siani Magruder opened up the game's scoring in the 31st minute by netting the first score of her career on a midfield strike while
Alexis Magruder added another two minutes later (33') off an assist from
Fiona Wright. Iona cut the lead in half in the 49th minute before
Tara Walenczyk (assisted by
Chinyere Chambers) and
Bailey Chant (assisted by
Angela Harris) doubled up the Highlanders' offensive production.
DEFENSE WINS GAMES
The Highlanders currently rank first in the ASUN Conference in goals against average (.476) and save percentage (.897) while Molly Saylor is pacing the league in GAA (.573), save percentage (.893), and shutouts (3).
SAYLOR EARNS FIRST ASUN HONOR
For her efforts in the first two games of the season, Saylor earned the ASUN Conference's first Defensive Player of the Week award of the season. Saylor ended last weekend with a 0.43 goals against average, a .909 save percentage, one shutout and ten saves in 207:09 of playing time against UMBC at home and Maryland on the road.
ALL-TIME SERIES
NJIT and LIU will be meeting for the first time in LIU's newest incarnation but the Highlanders have faced the school's former Division I and Division II campuses a combined eight times. NJIT was winless in five meetings against Division I LIU Brooklyn (0-4-1) and winless in three contests against Division II LIU Post (0-3).
SCOUTING LIU
LIU is currently 1-4 on the year after playing its first five games on the road. The Sharks split their last two games, earning a win over Seton Hall and falling to Fairfield. Current Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week Grace Cagnina scored the Sharks' first goal of the year in the team's 1-0 road victory over Seton Hall on September 6. Kayla DeTreux has started the majority of LIU's games in goal, playing 270 minutes, logging a 2.00 GAA and making seven saves on a .750 save percentage.
NEW ERA FOR NJIT ATHLETICS
Women's Soccer's opener against UMBC was the first regular season game played on NJIT's new field, which was completed this summer. It also marked the first on-campus contest for the Highlanders' three outdoor teams - women's soccer, men's soccer, and men's lacrosse - since November 7, 2015.

2019 OUTLOOK
NJIT will have 19 returners and seven newcomers on the roster as the Highlanders look to follow up on a historic 2018 campaign that saw the team set a program record for wins (11) and finish as the regular season runner-up in the ASUN Conference.
The Highlanders will be led by 2018 ASUN Coach of the Year Ally Nick, ASUN Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection Fiona Wright (11 goals in 2018), and Second Team All-ASUN honoree Nicole Loehle (2 goals; started 17 games for ASUN's 4th-ranked defense at 1.17 goals allowed per game).

The Highlanders will close their non-conference schedule on September 20 with another trip to New York to face the Columbia Lions. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
