Lipscomb Takes Rubber Game, 10-5

AUGUSTA, NJ—
Visiting Lipscomb scored at least one run in every inning but two to take the rubber game at NJIT, 10-5, Friday afternoon in ASUN Conference action at Skylands Stadium.

Lipscomb takes the three-game ASUN series, 2-1, improving to 21-18 overall, 5-7 in the ASUN while the Highlanders, who won game one of the series, 5-1, behind a five-hit complete game by Jared Kacso on Thursday, moves to 12-20-1 overall, 4-11 in the ASUN.

Joshua Colon, the Bison starting pitcher picked up his second win of the season, improving to 2-3 on the year, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on five Highlander hits.

Highlander starting pitcher Sean Lubreski takes the loss, moving to 4-5 on the season.  NJIT's fifth pitcher Bryce Short pitched the final two innings, letting up one hit and one run while striking out one Bison batter.

NJIT's Julio Marcano paced the Highlanders, going 4-for-5 while Jared Donnelly went 2-for-4.  Junior RF Matthew Cocciadiferro drove in four RBI with a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth, finishing 1-for-4.

The Bison combined for 14 hits, led by Haddon Adams (3-for-4) and Maddux Houghton (3-for-5).  DH Chris Bashlor drove in four runs, going 2-for-2 in the game.

Lipscomb got on the board in the top of the first on an RBI single to center field by Zeke Dodson followed by a sacrifice fly by Tevin Symonette for a 2-0 lead.

The Bison added a single run in the top of the second with an RBI double to left center, his second of the game by Haddson Adams, giving Lipscomb a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the third, DH Chris Bashlor drove in his second RBI of the game with a ground rule double to right field, pushing the Bison lead to 4-0.

Lipscomb scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and sixth, extending its lead to 8-0.

NJIT got on the board in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single to left field by Julio Marcano, scoring twin brother David Marcano, who led off the inning with a base hit to left field.

The Bison added a single run in the top of the seventh, pushing the lead 9-1.

With bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Cocciadiferro blasted a grand slam over the left field wall, pulling the Highlanders to within four, 9-5.  NJIT started the rally with a pair of walks in the inning and double to left field by Julio Marcano.

NJIT will return to action in a mid-week game on Wednesday at Monmouth.  First pitch is set for 3pm in West Long Branch, NJ.
