Track and Field Wraps Up Time At ASUN Indoor Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- The NJIT men's and women's track and field team completed their time at the 2019 ASUN Conference Indoor Championships Saturday evening.

The men's team ended the championship meet in fifth place with 40 points and the NJIT women placed sixth with two points.

MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS (DAY 1 RESULTS IN BOLD)
  • Heptathlon: Pritinder Singh earned silver in the Heptathlon (8 pts), tallying a new NJIT all-time high of 4,332 points. Singh finished no lower than fourth in any of the seven events and took second in three of them - 1000 meters (3:06.10); 60 meter hurdles (8.94); and High Jump (1.82m / 5-11.50). Connor Penrod added 1 pt by finishing sixth in the event (3,649).
  • 60 Meters: Kwaku Amponsah picked up a second bronze medal in as many days, finishing third in the 60 meters (6 pts) with a time of 6.95.
  • Long Jump: Kwaku Amponsah now owns the second-best in school history after his bronze-winning (6 pts) leap of 7.00m (22-11.75).
  • Weight Throw: Connor Letko placed fourth overall (4 pts) after a NJIT freshman record toss of 14.52m (47-7.75). Yogou Tsutsumi followed in fifth (2 pts) at 13.08m (42-11.00) and Edward Kasmin took sixth (1 pt) at 12.55m (41-2.25).
  • Distance Medley Relay: Jonathan Mobisa, Shaw Mageean, Gavin Camby and Ryan Budhu placed fourth (10:18.94), added 4 pts, qualified for the IC4A Championships and established a new NJIT school record.
  • 400 Meter Dash: Alex Ortega clocked in at 49.03 to place fifth (2 pts).
  • 4x400 Meter Relay: Alex Ortega, Acacio Escada, Shawn Mageean and Ryan Budhu placed fifth (2 pts) by running a time of 3:19.29.
  • 800 Meters: Ryan Budhu took the final scoring spot in the event, finishing sixth with a school record time of 1:54.97 (1 pt).
  • High Jump: LeAndre McFarlande finished sixth in the event (1 pt) with a jump of 1.87m (6-1.50).
  • Pole Vault: Calvin Gould took sixth (1 pt) with a mark of 4.46m (14-7.50).
  • Shot Put: Conor Letko's new PR and sixth place (1 pt) throw of 12.88m (42-3.25) set a new NJIT freshman benchmark and is the third-best toss in Highlander history.
  • 1 Mile: David Essel set a new school best after running a 4:36.85 mile.
