NEWARK, N.J. --- NJIT Women's Soccer (5-6-3, 2-3-1 ASUN) will play the first of its two final regular season home matches on Thursday evening as the Highlanders host Jacksonville.

LAST TIME OUT
NJIT's attempt to snap its two-game losing streak was unsuccessful as the Highlanders were defeated by Kennesaw State, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. NJIT ended its regular season road schedule with a 2-6-1 overall mark. Fiona Wright (3 shots) and Katrina Nguyen-DeMary (2 shots) took the majority of the Highlanders' nine shots in the contest but NJIT was unable to score a goal for the third consecutive game. Starting goalkeeper Molly Saylor played all 90 minutes, making five saves despite allowing the game's lone goal

PLAYOFF STATUS
If the season ended today, NJIT would compete in the ASUN Tournament as the No. 6 seed and would face No. 3 seed Liberty. The winner would take on No. 2 Lipscomb in Nashville.

SECOND ASUN HONOR FOR HIGHLANDERS
Aseng secured NJIT's second ASUN Defensive Player of the Week award of the season for her play against Stetson and North Alabama. She helped the Highlander defense allow only one goal in their two wins and added her first-ever goal against UNA. The DPOW honor is the fifth all-time for NJIT and follows Molly Saylor's accolade from the first week of the season.

DEFENSE WINS GAMES
The Highlanders currently rank in the top four in the ASUN Conference in goals against average (1.02; 4th) and goals allowed (15; 2nd) while Molly Saylor is pacing the league in save percentage (.842), second in saves (80), and fourth in GAA (1.10).

THE WRIGHT STUFF
Fiona Wright has extended her NJIT Division I record for career goals scored this season. With a team-leading three goals in 2019, Wright has now scored 14 goals in less than two seasons.

SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE
Jacksonville enters Thursday's match still searching for its first victory of the season. The Dolphins have played some teams close this year losing four contests by a single goal and tying three others. Jacksonville is led by Olivia Abdallah (4 goals), Emma Vasquez (1 assist, 12 shots), and Kristian Shores (1.81 GAA, .791 save pct., 72 saves).

ALL-TIME SERIES
NJIT and Jacksonville have split and alternated wins in their four all-time meetings (2-2). The Highlanders won last year's match, a 4-0 road shutout on September 30.

NEW ERA FOR NJIT ATHLETICS
Women's Soccer's opener against UMBC was the first regular season game played on NJIT's new field, which was completed this summer. It  also marked the first on-campus contest for the Highlanders' three outdoor teams - women's soccer, men's soccer, and men's lacrosse - since November 7, 2015.

LOOKING TO REPLICATE SUCCESS
NJIT will be looking to improve on its historic 2018 run through ASUN Conference play. The Highlanders ended conference action last year as the No. 2 team in the league with a 5-2-1 mark and hosted an ASUN Tournament game in its first-ever appearance.

2019 OUTLOOK
NJIT will have 19 returners and seven newcomers on the roster as the Highlanders look to follow up on a historic 2018 campaign that saw the team set a program record for wins (11) and finish as the regular season runner-up in the ASUN Conference.

The Highlanders will be led by 2018 ASUN Coach of the Year Ally Nick, ASUN Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection Fiona Wright (11 goals in 2018), and Second Team All-ASUN honoree Nicole Loehle (2 goals; started 17 games for ASUN's 4th-ranked defense at 1.17 goals allowed per game).

NEXT UP
NJIT will end the regular season on Sunday, October 27 at Noon when they host Liberty. The match will also serve as Senior Day for NJIT's seven seniors - Chinyere Chambers, Fiorella Doglio, Emily Heckman, Dunja Trajkovic, Lizzy Wolfe, Alexis Magruder, and Jessica Aseng.
