WEST ORANGE, NJ – NJIT, looking for it's first win of the season, was facing the Seton Hall Pirates for the second time in eight days.
The only thing different was that the Highlanders already short roster was even shorter. With
Ryan Nieves having left the team for personal reasons and the suspension of
James Lyle &
Dennis Sikorjak for their part in last night's altercation.
The Pirates scored the only goal of goal of the 1 st period. Jeff Patterson scored his first of the year to tie it up early in the 2 nd . The teams looked evenly matched as the players traded chances.
The Pirates broke through first scoring 3 straight times in a 5-minute span to take command of the game, but rather than roll over, the Highlanders rolled up their sleeves and went to work
scoring with a goal from
Christian Culp to cut the lead in half.
The 3 rd period saw a major change in the lines for NJIT as
Dalton Smith and
Jason Applin moved from defense to wings on the 1 st line with
Michael Caufield. The line showed promise on the
first shift and their energy was contagious. The Highlanders dominated the period firing 15 shots on net, but the Pirates netminder was up to the task as he stopped them all.
