NEWARK, NJ - In the last weekend of the regular season for the NJIT Highlanders, they were looking to finish strong as they continue to play their playoff push. The TCNJ Lions were able to hang on for a 3-2 win at the RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House. The Lions sweep the season series at 2-0 and the Highlanders finish with a 3-3 record against non-MCHC ACHA opponents. Their overall ACHA record is now 8-8-1. That is until starter Elliot Marken was replaced with 6:13 left in the period for Christian Cortez making his Highlander debut. TCNJ quickly took advantage with 2 goals in a 36 second span to lead 2-0. They held that lead into the 2nd intermission.
The Highlanders would get on the board early in the 3rd when Sal Micciche blasted a shot in front to get his 16th goal of the season. Emory Marshall got the lone helper on the goal. But, the Lions scored halfway through the period to regain their two-goal advantage. Micciche would get his 2nd of the night and 47th overall goal as a Highlander with less than 4 minutes remaining after deflecting Ian Etienne's top of the right circle shot. Paul Wendling would get the secondary assist for his 12th overall assist in his career. NJIT tried hard to tie the game late, but were unable to beat the Lions netminder for a 3rd time.
